Difference Between Nug Run and Trim Run Concentrates

THC based concentrates are prepared in many different ways. If you're exploring the difference, here's a good place to start.  After careful research, it appears there are different names for different types of concentrates. There's also that 'slangy' greyish area of terminology that tends to allow certain words the freedom to encompass different meanings for different people.

For instance, one online source has listed a NUG run as: Nectar — stating the term is a little vague, but stating the most common usage is referring to hash oil made from all nugs rather than trim. We'll take a look at Nectar in a moment but first let's take a look at another source who states; Hash oil or water hash as it may be called is made entirely from cannabis flowers rather than trim material. Since the flowers are the most trichome and terpene-rich part of the cannabis plant, these extracts are known for yielding quite a bit more than trim as well as providing a cleaner flavor.

With that summation from various sources, we then look at what's being said about trim run concentrates, noting a site saying; A Trim run is when concentrates are made from trim rather than buds. The site further states that Trim runs are generally thought to be a step below nug runs in terms of yield, potency and flavor. A variety of concentrate makers report similar results using either type of starting material.

Now let's turn to that oh so precious Nectar. First and foremost, let's understand the greater picture of 'Nectar' and the richness it is.  According to Greek Mythology, Nectar was called the divine drink that the Olympian gods had. It had the magical property to confer immortality on any mortal who had the luck to drink it. It was closely related to ambrosia, which was considered the food of the gods, although sometimes it was also thought to be a drink.

Studying further I stumbled onto an old blog with some interesting conversations posted one of which stated; "there are a lot of scientists/historians who believe the mythical drink "ambrosia" the nectar of the gods was created by having honey bee hives next to cannabis/hemp fields. The honey that is produced from that area then contains thc, that the ancient greeks would mix into a wine with euphoric like feelings."

So by connecting a few dots, we have a good idea of the origins of Nectar. Wiki says Nectar is a sugar-rich liquid produced by plants in glands called nectaries, either within the flowers with which it attracts pollinating animals, or by extrafloral nectaries, which provide a nutrient source to animal mutualists, which in turn provide antiherbivore protection.

Of course the conversation about bees, weed and honey got me to thinking and of course so did others, but to my astonishment, there's a fellow from france who calls himself Nicholas Trainer-bees who is becoming quite a little legend amongst both beekeepers and cannabis enthusiasts. He claims he has trained his bees to make honey from weed!  He states, “I have trained bees to do several things, such as collect sugar from fruits, instead of using flowers,” Nicholas said. “The aim arose for me to get the bees to obtain this resin.”

By using what he calls “a training technique whereby the bees collect the resin and use it in the beehive,” Nicholas and his bees have created the world’s first batch of “cannahoney.”

Well Howdy Doody! Do you think they'll package it in cans?

Let's have some tea....pass the honey please.

Colorado Pot Featured In High Times “Strongest Strains on Earth”

ChemDog with 32.13% THC, is an indica entered by Next Harvest. High Times states that the Chem has achieved what most people thought impossible with it’s level of potency - which begs the question: How potent can a flower go in terms of producing psychoactive THC?

The Brotherhood came in second with 27.65% THC and is also an indica. It was entered by Animas Herbal Wellness Center. It’s our understanding that it’s propagated from seed and her lineage stacks up like this: (Willie’s Wonder x Grape Krush) x (Bubba ’91 x The White).

Sour Kush 60/40 with 26% THC, a hybrid came in number three. It was entered by Black Dog LED. Next is Lemon OG Haze with 26.14% THC. It’s a sativa entered by Ethos Seed Company. Ghost Train Haze was next with 27.46% THC, sativa, entered by Greenman Cannabis in Denver with the review noting, it’s a Rare Dankness–bred strain dipped slightly.

The strongest CBD strains were tested by three different labs across four separate competitions. Coming in at number 5 out of the top six CBD strains is Colorado's The White entered by Green Grass Central City, expressing 16.57% CBD with 0.67% THC. The sixth strongest CBD strain AC/DC entered by Emerald Triangle Genetics came in expressing 15.4% CBD with 0.8% THC.

The top CBD strain, Cannatonic, entered by IDK Farms topped out at an amazing 20.8% CBD with 0.8% THC. The second highest strain was CBD OG entered by C.R.A.F.T. expressing 19.5% CBD with a fairly high level of THC reaching 9.01%.

Perkins Cut Cannatonic entered by Mota Rebel Genetics expressed 18.8% CBD and 0.7% THC and was listed as the third highest. The fourth on the list was CBDee's #1B entered by Pure West Compassion Club with Light Sky Farms. It expressed a CBD level of 18.6% with THC at 0.7%.

In 2013, Bruce Banner came in number 3 at the Denver Cannabis Cup with a high of 28.35% THC. In 2015 a well known LA dispensary by the name of Greenwolf, took home the Denver Cup for their entry, Emperor Cookie Dough. This is not your ordinary cookie dough though. This stuff has a walloping 31.1% THC. Denver's own Next Harvest, wasn't about to be stirred. Their entry of ChemDog Cut surpassed the 32% mark setting the bar high with a new all-time record of 32.13% THC.

These are impressive levels and from the looks of it, the USA is producing a more power packed marijuana plant than that of our tokking friends in Jamaica.

The top of the list of six only reaches 17.8% THC submitted by St. Best Ganja Growers apparently going by a self titled name. The entry was submitted by Kevin Samuels and the strain is called Kevies Skunk. Second on the list of entries from Jamaica is True OG entered by Kingston Skinny with a 17.4% THC level followed by Power Nap entered by Sunspice with a level of 16.8% THC.

Next in the lineup is Gummy Berry 2 entered by Bongo Mannie. It's an indica flower grown outdoors with 16.6% THC. Following GB2 is Orange Hill Ebola entered by Juna Johnson. OHE is an outdoor grown indica with a 15.8% THC level. Wrapping it up at number six is M.G. Express - G.O.E.Original, coming again from St. Best Ganja Growers this time submitted by Glendon Elcis. This flower is an outdoor grown sativa leveling out at 15.4% THC and by the hyphenated name and initials G and E in the title, one must guess Glendon Elcis had a little influence.

Marijuana Strains for Your Halloween Festivities

Halloween is a great time for treating yourself to a little rest and relaxation. It's a time when tricksters and their treats hit the streets trying to score the mother candy load. The history of halloween is sketchy at best, but according to Peter Tokofsky, an assistant professor in the department of folklore and mythology at UCLA, the earliest trace of Halloween is the Celtic festival, Samhain, which is the Celtic New Year. Samhain (pronounced sah-win or sow-in) means "summer's end" by the Celts. "This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death." We'll cut short there because really and truly, the 'harvest' is all we're interested in! To celebrate, here's a list of the top fifty orange marijuana strains and if you feel like trick or treating this Halloween, why not stock up on orange weed!
Make it a Safe One.

COLORADO PTSD RULING

Five individuals with PTSD filed a claim against Colorado over its choice not to permit their condition to be dealt with under the state's therapeutic pot program, despite the fact that the marijuana is as of now, lawful in the state for medical and recreational purposes.

Colorado as a leader in cannabis cultivation and sales and should take a glazing look at the state of Illinois and it's most recent lawsuit filed to petition adding PTSD as a condition to the current list of approved ailments.

A Cook County judge has decided that Illinois must add post traumatic anxiety issues to the state's approved list of medical conditions that fit the bill for medicinal cannabis treatment, as reported by the Associated Press. Only one day prior to the judgement, restorative cannabis program executive Joseph Wright surrendered from his position.

The Illinois veteran who filed claim, Daniel Paul Jabs, supposedly "feels this choice gives him and other military veterans experiencing PTSD the admiration they merit from the state and the representative's office," as per an announcement by Michael Goldberg, his lawyer.

This new issue will at last permit Illinois veterans and other people who experience the ill effects of PTSD access to cannabis as medication, and will prevent the state from blocking cannabis as a treatment. This is a big triumph for cannabis-curing veterans all over the place.

Lawyers contend that cannabis has been "extremely obstructed" by the medicinal board's refusal to perceive PTSD as a condition that is fitting for medical cannabis treatment. The prohibition of PTSD from the list was made regardless of a proposal from Colorado's main medicinal officer Dr. Larry Wolk.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment awarded $2 million to Dr. Sue Sisley for her study on cannabis in treating PTSD. It appears Sisley has to source the plants for the study but her sources are not able produce the kind of cannabidiol-rich strains she needs. Her source of weed being that of the University of Mississippi streamlined by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

On the alternative, she could walk into any local dispensary and purchase what she needs for the study but  that would make things too UNcomplicated. It would simplify things and most certainly expedite the process. In addition to that, Colorado would be receiving taxes on the money that's spent in the local dispensaries. It's as though there is no common sense among-st lawmakers.

The FDA approved two medications for PTSD, Paxil and Zoloft. According to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, neither are more effective than a placebo.

From a legal point of view, Colorado voters approved Amendment 20 which  allows the Board of Health to add conditions. Currently Section 14. of Amendment 20 states; Medical use of marijuana for persons suffering from debilitating medical conditions as used in this section,  terms are defined as follows;

(a) "Debilitating medical condition" means: (I) Cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or treatment for such conditions;

(II) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition, or treatment for such conditions, which produces, for a specific patient, one or more of the following, and for which, in the professional opinion of the patient's physician, such condition or conditions reasonably may be alleviated by the medical use of marijuana: cachexia ( a wasting syndrome):  severe pain; severe nausea; seizures, including those that are characteristic of epilepsy; or persistent muscle spasms, including those that are characteristic of multiple sclerosis; or

(III) Any other medical condition, or treatment for such condition, approved by the state health agency, pursuant to its rulemaking authority or its approval of any petition submitted by a patient or physician as provided in this section.

In the largest understanding of our mutual habitation on planet earth, let's get it together folks.  Suffering is absolutely unnecessary and avoidable.  Wake up and do the right thing

CBD for Dogs?

CBD for Dogs

Unlikened to the 2000 stoner movie Dude, Where's My Car? where Jesse (Ashton Kutcher), and Chester (Seann William Scott), are entertained by Nelson's (David Herman), stoner dog as the dog tokes from a self resembling pipe, CBD for dogs seems to be having a positive growing effect on man's best friend.

CBD Cannabis produced pet products are produced mostly from hemp which has significantly different properties than the most consumed pot plants. Further discussion on the difference between hemp and medicinal marijuana will be discussed in another post, but for the most part, Hemp is part of the cannabis plant family but has an extremely low level of THC,  grows differently than THC-containing cannabis, and is well known for industrial use. Both are derived from the Cannabis Sativa L plant. Hemp contains from 0.3%-1.5% of THC while medicinal cannabis contains around 5% to 10%.

CBD extracted from Hemp -aka- Hemp Cannabidiol, or Hemp CBD is a non-psychoactive oil  extracted from cannabis plants.  Non-psychoactive meaning your dog won't get stoned!

Dogs, similar to humans produce natural chemicals in the body that interact within the endocannabinoid (EC) system called cannabinoids.  These cannabinoids work the same way in animals as they do in humans.  They work directly on the endocannabinoid (EC) system through cannabinoid receptors.

Cannabinoid receptors are a class of cell membrane receptors. There are two types.  CB1 receptor which is expressed mainly in the brain, the central nervous system, lungs, liver and kidneys. The CB2 receptor is expressed mainly in the immune system.

There are several companies and entrepreneurs already extracting, baking and shaping cannabis derived pet products. A quick internet search and you'll delight your best pal with a variety of healthy CBD treats including liquid concentrates, oils, edibles, biscuits, and capsules with plenty of treats sure to please and keep your pet at peace.

The American Pet Products Association suggests that the U.S. pet industry grew at an 8% CAGR to reach $58.51 billion in 2014.  $13.72 billion of that was derived from the retail pet medicine market with CBD-based products.

The APPA ( American Pet Products Association) has shared some interesting data that should provide insight as to the future revenues of CBD for dogs. They report that in 2015 the total pet industry expenditures in the United States hit $60.28 million and is estimated to hit $62.75 million this year.

$15.42 billion was spent on animal care, followed by $14.28 billion spent on animal supplies and over-the-counter medicine. Live animal purchases captured $2.12 billion while  pet food delivered $23.05 billion. Pet services such as grooming and boarding grew to $5.41 billion in 2015.

Dogs are best friends and family members.  They are loyal and trustworthy. They also know all your secrets and see everything you do when no one else is around.  Just think... what if your dog could really speak?!

Enjoy the Now!

What is Hemp? Difference Between Marijuana

It is reported that the United States founding fathers were hip on hemp. George Washington grew industrial strain hemp crops that were used for the production of rope, thread, canvas, and many other industrial applications.  It's also been rumored that refusing to grow hemp in America during the 17th and 18th centuries was against the law!  You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769.

Amazing how times have turned and today ladies and gents, let's take a look at this crop and shed some light on this animal, well actually plant.

Hemp is a part of the Cannabis sativa plant family. It grows very fast and has a very low level of THC with much higher concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD).  It has been said that hemp use dates back ten thousand years ago when it was first spun into useable fiber.  Modern day use after it's been refined include commercial items such as paper, textiles, food, fuel, and clothing to name a few. Hemp does not produce psychoactive effects.

There are many differences between hemp and marijuana with the most obvious being its use. Marijuana is used as a consumable and topical product for medical and recreational purposes. Hemp is used for industrial purposes. Hemp fibers are very strong and have many practical applications.  Marijuana has psychoactive effects (you feel stoned). Hemp does not have psychoactive effects. Hemp is a high-growing plant and produces CBD which has many of the same pain management benefits of marijuana without feeling stoned. Marijuana plants produce high levels of THC (the get stoned compound).

The biggest difference between marijuana and hemp is that research has shown, CBD acts to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC. That means what is extracted from hemp counteracts that which is extracted from marijuana, even though they are from the same Cannabis sativa plant family.

Hemp is hip!  It's a usable practical plant that has incredible benefits.  As states continue to legalize marijuana and countries open their borders, the Cannabis sativa family of plants has a great chance of becoming the new "cash crop" of the millennium.

**

Cool quip from wiki: Hemp was made illegal to grow without a permit in the U.S. under the Controlled Substances Act passed in 1970 because of its relation to marijuana. Some states have made the cultivation of industrial hemp legal, but farmers in many states have not yet begun to grow it because of resistance from the DEA. In 2013, after the legalization of cannabis in the state, several farmers in Colorado planted and harvested several acres of hemp, bringing in the first hemp crop in the United States in over half a century.

**

Way to grow Colorado! A state where new beginning flourish and new ideas come to life.

Enjoy the Now!

CBD vs. THC - What are the Differences?

Posted by CANNASaver on Sunday, 18 September 2016 in Canna Blog

Differences Between CBD and THC

To explain the difference between CBD and THC it's important to first know what these abbreviated symbols mean and then explore what each compound is made of and it's effect on the human body.

CBD is short for Cannabidiol.  Why CBD instead of CNL? Who know's. There's still worldwide confusion over the term "jumbo shrimp".

Cannabidiol is a natural compound within the Cannabis sativa plant. As scientist continue to research the many different types of cannabis plants, scientist are also discovering the chemical properties that make up the plants. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of several hundred compounds found within the chemical structure of the sativa plant. It has become popular due to its effects on the human brain and body.

THC is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol. Now this abbreviation makes a lot more sense. The t, the h, and the c are all right there standing front faced at attention as proud members of the american english alpha-bet should be!

THC is the chemical compound in cannabis that produces the "high" effect. CBD on the other hand, does not produce   a "high" feeling like THC.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is probably the most popular compound in cannabis because it is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Psychoactive is anything capable of affecting mental activity. It's a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness.  It's the chemical that leads to various euphorias felt within the body and brain.  Some  examples of psychoactive substances most people have heard of include LSD, cocaine, crack cocaine, methylphenidate (Ritalin), and ephedrine to name a few. Both THC and CBD  interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in the human body.

Hundreds of different cannabinoids have been isolated from the Cannabis plant. Cannabinoids in simple terms are chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in cells within biological systems.

The human body has what is called an Endocannabinoid system.  Cannabinoid receptors are located throughout the body connected to this system.   Having a well-functioning endocannabinoid system is vital for human health. It is responsible for many of body's physiological processes such pain-sensation, mood, memory and appetite.

With this understanding, one may ask, what are the benefits of using one over the other.  The answer would have to be based on each individual's preference.  A look at a few of the other differences point out that CBD is technically legal because it does not produce the psychoactive “high” effect that THC does.

CBD is widely used for medical purposes and especially important for children and elderly patients who may be greatly helped by the cannabis plant but certainly would not and should not have any substance that would affect mental activity.

THC on the other hand produces a 'high' that people just love and it's high time the cannabis plant is respected for all the medicinal, social and financial benefits it produces.

The one thing about CBD and THC that is most impressive, is that you can try them both and see what works best for you!

Enjoy the Now!
