The Green Party Stance on Marijuana Legalization

Posted by CANNASaver on Wednesday, 26 October 2016 in Canna Blog

Marijuana and The Green Party

With the 2016 elections quickly approaching and Green Party candidates like Jill Stein coming onto the radar of an increasing number of disillusioned voters, many in the marijuana industry are wondering, just how green is the Green Party? What is the party’s stance on marijuana reform, and would the marijuana industry find some safeguards under Green Party leadership? Would marijuana dispensaries in Colorado and other legal weed states face fewer regulations or more? While Presidential candidate Jill Stein isn't expected to get anywhere near the number of votes she needs to win, she may very well get enough votes to earn the Green Party a spot in future election debates. The Green Party already holds over 100 positions across the nation at the city and county level, and with more and more states opening up to legal marijuana, the party is definitely gaining supporters as well as attention. Here is the lowdown on where the Green Party stands on the green.

Protection for the Marijuana Industry

The Green Party platform includes powerful protections and safeguards for the legal marijuana industry, which is important to states like Colorado where marijuana is big business. Not only does the party platform call for the legalization of cannabis possession, sale, and cultivation, but also the DEA would be instructed to not interfere with or harass legally operating cannabis businesses, from marijuana cultivation centers to marijuana dispensaries and marijuana social clubs. Marijuana entrepreneurs would have some assurance that their businesses could continue, while new marijuana entrepreneurs would have the protection needed to open new businesses and industries.

Amnesty for marijuana offenders

The Green Party platform also calls for serious reforms to how the criminal justice system handles drug offenders. Drug use and abuse would no longer be handled as a crime but as a medical issue, and anyone currently being held on charges for non-violent marijuana crimes would be released.

Opponents worry that the Green Party's stance on drugs goes too far, not only legalizing cannabis but also paving the way for the decriminalization of extremely dangerous drugs such as crack and heroin.

Running on Reefer

Green Party candidates are outspoken in their support of marijuana legalization. Throughout her campaign, Presidential candidate Jill Stein has made reference to the need for drug reform and has voiced her support for marijuana legalization at the national level. Other Green Party candidates are also using marijuana legalization to gain supporters. Vanessa Tijerina, who is running for a congressional seat in southern Texas, has made a point of bringing medical marijuana into the spotlight, campaigning to raise public awareness about the medical benefits of cannabis.

The Future of the Green

With a majority of Americans now supporting marijuana legalization, the Green Party with its pro-cannabis platform could soon become a prominent feature of our country’s political landscape. While they're unlikely to win many races this time around, the mere presence of Green Party candidates on the ballot brings needed attention to marijuana legalization and the millions of citizens who support it. With dispensaries and other marijuana businesses on the line in states like Colorado, the sharp divisions that have separated political parties for decades have already begun to blur.

Marijuana Topicals and You

The Topicals Topic

While the first thing many people may think of in regards to the marijuana industry is a bunch of people now allowed to get high, it has also made some amazing strides in the kinds of products available for medicinal usage even on the recreational side, several of which allow users to bypass any of the “high” aspect of using marijuana. Some edible companies are now producing CBD only edibles, with only a tiny amount of THC in them either to use as a catalyst to help enhance the CBD without enough to cause psychoactive effects, or for legal reasons, as dispensaries can only sell ingest-able products that contain THC because of food license sorts of things. Some companies can also do online ordering and shipping for CBD products that are made with hemp and have almost 0 THC content, usually in tincture form. I’ve used a few of these, and though I prefer more of a 1:1 ratio, they are still very helpful for pain and seizure relief, especially for people not looking for any kind of real intoxication.

There are also some very nice products available for topical relief if you’re not interested in ingesting something. I have used a few different lotions and salves, though my favorite is definitely the spray lotions, as you don’t have to use much and for muscle relief they can be very fast acting. Their speed seems to be the only real difference between sprays and lotions, though some of the thinner lotions are somewhat faster as well. Even though most of the lotions contain THC they don’t go into your blood stream, which can be a concern for some older customers just because of marijuana taboos that still very much exist. One of my coworkers had a grandmother that used it for her arthritis because smoking was not an option at her age, and there are now several more companies making these topical creams that there used to be so there are options for everything from pain relief to anti anxiety calming, all with quality ingredients you’d find in non-medicated lotion.

Another great option is trans-dermal patches, though these will go into your bloodstream so make sure not to get any with THC in them if that’s not what you’re looking for. These are pretty interesting because they can also give you options for taking more specific cannibinoids, some with all CBD, some with CBD and THCv, some with non activated THC, which can cause different effects than traditionally activated THC. Just for clarification, most THC in marijuana is actually THCa, which then turns into THC when activated by whatever heating element is used. The patches are time release and I’ve had them last between 8 and 12 hours, but you can also cut them into smaller pieces for multiple lesser uses.

These are just a few of the new options you can find in dispensaries for a little more relief than just average smoking, and there are always new products coming out. I’ve seen CBD medicated sugar for adding to drinks, bath salts that give crazy amounts of muscle relief and relaxation, even dog treats for arthritis. If you’ve been looking for something besides weed to maximize your relief, ask about some of these products, in my experience they are a fantastic thing to have on hand if you need a quick solution for pain.

How To Buy Marijuana Like a Pro

How to Buy Weed Like a Pro

After working in a dispensary for a decent amount of time, it quickly becomes apparent that not everyone buys marijuana the same way. Some people will only ever buy ounces at a time, some people can’t let themselves have more than a gram at a time in their house for fear that they’ll smoke it all. This kind of buyer always makes me sad because even though I understand where they are coming from, most dispensaries don’t run any particularly strong sales on very small amounts, so I end up having to charge them far more over time than someone who comes in for an eighth every few days. And then you have customers who only buy large amounts or specific strains, still wasting money on small day to day purchases in between their favorite strains availability.

Strain availability seems to be kind of a hard thing to grasp for some people, I personally have been yelled at countless times because someone couldn’t rationalize the idea that marijuana has to be grown, cured, and tested before it can be released for consumption. Depending on the strain it can also take longer to grow or produce far less than some other strains a dispensary might have, which is why while it may seem like they are focusing on a strain you don’t particularly care for in reality your favorite just produces notably less per harvest. In this way you can’t really blame the people that stock up on their favorites, but as with anything too much of one strain is not necessarily a good thing.

I think it is very important to be fairly constantly changing what strains you smoke, of course everyone has a favorite but you stand to make your favorite hit you harder if you take a break from it for a bit. The more you smoke a specific strain, especially if you get it from the same dispensary, your body has a very good chance of slowly building up a tolerance to it, in some cases I’ve even felt that smoking different strains from the same dispensary can hit you weaker because they all use the same sort of nutrient cocktail. I recently visited another recreational state and found that even though I had purchased something considerably lower THC wise, the weed hit me very differently from any of the strains that I had been getting from my dispensary. This is nothing to do with the quality of the weed, it was simply something that my body had not gotten used to yet.

I am also a fan of getting out of your strain comfort zone. If you are someone who is constantly smoking the heaviest Indicas you can find but aren’t feeling the kick like you used to, switch to some Sativas. There are plenty of Sativa options that don’t carry with them the raciness some customers avoid, plenty of strains that will serve their purpose of kicking your receptors out of the rut they can get into. This goes for Sativa users as well, find a light Indica, something with uplifting body high instead of heaviness. You may find that when you go back to your Sativa standard it’s been given back some of the kick you missed.

So what does this mean all together? I recommend getting an eighth to a quarter of whatever strain you are looking at, anything more can start to degrade somewhat by the time you get to the end of your bag, jar, what have you. I just finished a half ounce of something and the first hit of the new strain was a phenomenal change. And most importantly, try new things. Don’t get upset when your spot is out of something you love, it may just be a chance for you to find a new favorite, and with so many dispensaries running specials on eighths there is always something new to be tried.

Dispensary Security Guard Duty

Posted by CANNASaver on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 in Canna Blog

Dispensary Security Guard Duty

I have been lucky to work for a dispensary that has always had a guard in place, but for first time visitors there can often be an odd level of off-putting energy surrounding seeing someone armed greeting you at the doorway. Not all dispensaries have guards, but the ones that do I would say are ahead of the curve. There have been several instances of unguarded dispensaries being robbed, generally responding by hiring security the next day, most likely kicking themselves for not jumping on the boat. There is also a level of imaginative paranoia that I personally have where I can totally see security companies hiring essentially hit-men to go rob a dispensary to land contracts, though lets all hope that is not a thing.

But why guards? Simply put, this is a thing that is assumed to be necessary given the assumed clientele that populate the group of people that have been long time weed smokers, but personally even in black market sales safety was rarely something that I felt I had to double take on, as most of the people I have dealt with as well as people I’ve talked to about their experiences never found themselves in any kind of “I think I need to start carrying a gun” mentality. Most of the instances where I feel like I have heard about such things were dealers that didn’t just sell weed, other things like cocaine and pills being more likely to attract violent and unstable people, more along the lines of requiring protection.

But an important thing to consider, something that I have written a decent amount about before, is people that are still operating within the black market, using dispensaries to facilitate their personal sales. There is a massive element of the legal weed market that involves people running to various dispensaries and scalping deals so as to still be able to make a profit when they flip it to neighbors or an established customer base of some kind, as well as people with medical cards that solely use them to get large quantities that they can then flip for more than the running price for medical, which their customers may not have the option to access.

This is a big part of the demographic that is likely to cause a scene in a dispensary, screaming at budtenders because the prices they get quoted don’t allow them to flip for enough profit, then putting the blame on us as an industry, which while that is technically the case it puts us in the compromising position of dealing with having to remove someone from the premises for trying to make us sell to someone that we are then sure are reselling it, which we are legally required to shut down. But when you’ve got a huge dude screaming in your face, banging on counters, it’s nice to have someone to look over to that can help you. This also takes the potential legal implications of removing a customer out of you as the budtender’s hands, and puts it in the hands of a trained professional who’s job is exactly that.

I love our guards, and some of them have remained my friends even after working with them, though of course you can always get the slightly overzealous ones, as most are ex-military or ex-police, nothing to their discredit, some off them just need to calm down a little. But it also doesn’t help when snarky customers berate them about carrying a gun or joke about them not being able to protect anyone, which I have seen happen several times. Even though it can be somewhat off-putting to see a guard in a dispensary just know that you for sure would rather have them there rather than not, and understand that they are not looking to pick a fight, they only want to make sure everything goes as smoothly as it should.

Could CBD Oil be The Real Fountain of Youth?

The Anti-Aging Benefits of CBD Oil
Repair Wrinkles with CBD Oil

CBD oil has stepped into the spotlight as research continues to emerge revealing its many healing and anti-aging benefits, and lately, it's being touted as the latest skincare miracle. More and more beauty experts are singing the praises of CBD, insisting that CBD reduces wrinkles and may even help repair them. Here’s what you need to know to improve the look of your skin and reduce wrinkles with CBD.

What is CBD?

CBD is a compound called a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in marijuana. Cannabinoids also occur naturally in the human body, and the brain has a set of receptors specifically used for detecting and reacting to cannabinoids. CBD is present in all marijuana, but some strains such as Charlotte's Web, are grown to maximize the CBD content while minimizing the THC content. While THC is psychoactive, CBD is not. Consuming CBD products or using them on the skin won't get you high. CBD is often sold as an oil. The CBD compounds are extracted from the marijuana and concentrated much like any other natural essential oil.

CBD oil is often blended into other products ranging from edibles to skin creams and lotions.

How CBD Reduces Wrinkles

CBD reduces wrinkles in a number of ways. CBD oil or CBD-infused creams and lotions can be applied directly to your skin for deep moisturizing. CBD is an antioxidant so it also helps your skin fight damage caused by free radicals from things like UV radiation from the sun and cigarette smoke. This helps protect your skin’s smoothness and elasticity.

Another reason CBD reduces wrinkles is because it's a natural rejuvenator. CBD is known to help skin cells regenerate by aiding in the removal of dead skin cells and by encouraging new cells to grow. This gives your skin a healthier and more luminescent glow.

CBD reduces wrinkles even more when you make it a part of your diet in addition to applying it topically. Look for edibles labeled as CBD edibles, and be sure to ask about any THC content that might also be present in the product. You can also add CBD oil or hemp seed oil directly to your food. Just be sure the product is intended for consumption and not a topical formulation that might have added non-edible ingredients like dyes or perfumes.

Where to buy CBD

Wondering where to buy CBD in Denver? Well CBD is legal worldwide so you can actually buy CBD online. However, if you have questions and want some help to make sure you choose the right CBD product, you're best bet is to buy CBD in Denver at any one of the many medical or recreational dispensaries that carry it, which is most of them. Karmaceuticals, The Green Solution, Herbal Remedies Denver, Medicine Man Denver , and Livwell Franklin are among the many Denver dispensaries that sell CBD oil in Colorado. You can often find coupons for CBD on Cannasaver .

Look Good, Feel Good

CBD can help you look younger and feel more youthful. With its host of known health benefits and new applications being discovered everyday, CBD is definitely worth a try. If you want to reduce wrinkles and restore your body from the ravages of time, CBD should be at the top of your list.

COLORADO YTD POT REVENUES JUMP 33% WITH AUGUST SETTING NEW RECORD

According to the Colorado Department of Revenues most recently published marijuana tax report, during the first eight months of 2016, Colorado medical and adult-use marijuana hit $846 million jumping 33% from the same period last year.  According to a Pew Research Center poll, 57% of Americans say marijuana should be legal so it's easy to see why pot sales are on the rise.

In Colorado,  medical and retail marijuana is presented with a 2.9% sales tax and retail marijuana is presented with 10% special sales tax. These tax dollars recently funded a television commercial that can be found online and should be hitting a television set near you very soon.

The state is attempting to run television commercials telling parents to talk to their kids about pot. LOL!  Come on Denver, you're missing the point just like the mighty ones that funded the DARE program.  Now if you smarten up, you'll produce commercials telling kids to talk to their parents about weed!

It is amazing that children are used in the pot wars. In some sociopaths minds, saying legalizing pot will keep it out of the hands of children, is like saying there's a drought when the planet is mostly water. Do you remember being 13?  I can walk into any neighborhood and within a very short time, some teen will be able to do a drug hook up.

Not to digress, that's another topic.

$126 million in recreational cannabis sales was reported for the month of August which is said to be a new record for the state’s marijuana industry.  Rec sales were nearly $85 million of the total. That's up 43% from the same time a year ago.  It's reported that Adult-use sales jumped nearly 50% over the same period this time last year through August. The  comparison is during the first eight months of 2015.

According to a Pew Research center study poll, younger Americans are leading the shift in support of cannabis legalization, and it's no wonder. Younger Americans have grown up in favorable circumstances led by direct knowledge instead of propaganda. They have encompassed technology at a rate that propels the advent of new technologies so rapidly, last year's generation is still trying to figure out how to program their VCR while the younger generation forces expansion and growth. - Hey, didn't anybody ever tell you those VCR things are obsolete? - Lest you remember - or forget - Blockbuster Video Rental Stores? LOL!

The University of Colorado Leeds School of Business released a report that Colorado’s employment growth is meeting expectations and the economy continues to outperform the nation. The report stated that Colorado Employment is growing faster, housing is hotter and incomes are higher. Food and chemical manufacturing added 1,200 jobs between 2014 and 2015 and manufacturing as a whole added 6,100 jobs.

The legalization of marijuana is expected to continue to drive growth in retail sales and employment in Colorado and many other states as the November ballot quickly approaches.  A recent national Gallup poll showed that 58% of respondents were in favor of nationwide legalization so it easy to see where this is headed. Less alcohol related accidents and deaths is one outcome we can insure!

Be Well.

Difference Between Nug Run and Trim Run Concentrates

THC based concentrates are prepared in many different ways. If you're exploring the difference, here's a good place to start.  After careful research, it appears there are different names for different types of concentrates. There's also that 'slangy' greyish area of terminology that tends to allow certain words the freedom to encompass different meanings for different people.

For instance, one online source has listed a NUG run as: Nectar — stating the term is a little vague, but stating the most common usage is referring to hash oil made from all nugs rather than trim. We'll take a look at Nectar in a moment but first let's take a look at another source who states; Hash oil or water hash as it may be called is made entirely from cannabis flowers rather than trim material. Since the flowers are the most trichome and terpene-rich part of the cannabis plant, these extracts are known for yielding quite a bit more than trim as well as providing a cleaner flavor.

With that summation from various sources, we then look at what's being said about trim run concentrates, noting a site saying; A Trim run is when concentrates are made from trim rather than buds. The site further states that Trim runs are generally thought to be a step below nug runs in terms of yield, potency and flavor. A variety of concentrate makers report similar results using either type of starting material.

Now let's turn to that oh so precious Nectar. First and foremost, let's understand the greater picture of 'Nectar' and the richness it is.  According to Greek Mythology, Nectar was called the divine drink that the Olympian gods had. It had the magical property to confer immortality on any mortal who had the luck to drink it. It was closely related to ambrosia, which was considered the food of the gods, although sometimes it was also thought to be a drink.

Studying further I stumbled onto an old blog with some interesting conversations posted one of which stated; "there are a lot of scientists/historians who believe the mythical drink "ambrosia" the nectar of the gods was created by having honey bee hives next to cannabis/hemp fields. The honey that is produced from that area then contains thc, that the ancient greeks would mix into a wine with euphoric like feelings."

So by connecting a few dots, we have a good idea of the origins of Nectar. Wiki says Nectar is a sugar-rich liquid produced by plants in glands called nectaries, either within the flowers with which it attracts pollinating animals, or by extrafloral nectaries, which provide a nutrient source to animal mutualists, which in turn provide antiherbivore protection.

Of course the conversation about bees, weed and honey got me to thinking and of course so did others, but to my astonishment, there's a fellow from france who calls himself Nicholas Trainer-bees who is becoming quite a little legend amongst both beekeepers and cannabis enthusiasts. He claims he has trained his bees to make honey from weed!  He states, “I have trained bees to do several things, such as collect sugar from fruits, instead of using flowers,” Nicholas said. “The aim arose for me to get the bees to obtain this resin.”

By using what he calls “a training technique whereby the bees collect the resin and use it in the beehive,” Nicholas and his bees have created the world’s first batch of “cannahoney.”

Well Howdy Doody! Do you think they'll package it in cans?

Let's have some tea....pass the honey please.

Colorado Pot Featured In High Times “Strongest Strains on Earth”

ChemDog with 32.13% THC, is an indica entered by Next Harvest. High Times states that the Chem has achieved what most people thought impossible with it’s level of potency - which begs the question: How potent can a flower go in terms of producing psychoactive THC?

The Brotherhood came in second with 27.65% THC and is also an indica. It was entered by Animas Herbal Wellness Center. It’s our understanding that it’s propagated from seed and her lineage stacks up like this: (Willie’s Wonder x Grape Krush) x (Bubba ’91 x The White).

Sour Kush 60/40 with 26% THC, a hybrid came in number three. It was entered by Black Dog LED. Next is Lemon OG Haze with 26.14% THC. It’s a sativa entered by Ethos Seed Company. Ghost Train Haze was next with 27.46% THC, sativa, entered by Greenman Cannabis in Denver with the review noting, it’s a Rare Dankness–bred strain dipped slightly.

The strongest CBD strains were tested by three different labs across four separate competitions. Coming in at number 5 out of the top six CBD strains is Colorado's The White entered by Green Grass Central City, expressing 16.57% CBD with 0.67% THC. The sixth strongest CBD strain AC/DC entered by Emerald Triangle Genetics came in expressing 15.4% CBD with 0.8% THC.

The top CBD strain, Cannatonic, entered by IDK Farms topped out at an amazing 20.8% CBD with 0.8% THC. The second highest strain was CBD OG entered by C.R.A.F.T. expressing 19.5% CBD with a fairly high level of THC reaching 9.01%.

Perkins Cut Cannatonic entered by Mota Rebel Genetics expressed 18.8% CBD and 0.7% THC and was listed as the third highest. The fourth on the list was CBDee's #1B entered by Pure West Compassion Club with Light Sky Farms. It expressed a CBD level of 18.6% with THC at 0.7%.

In 2013, Bruce Banner came in number 3 at the Denver Cannabis Cup with a high of 28.35% THC. In 2015 a well known LA dispensary by the name of Greenwolf, took home the Denver Cup for their entry, Emperor Cookie Dough. This is not your ordinary cookie dough though. This stuff has a walloping 31.1% THC. Denver's own Next Harvest, wasn't about to be stirred. Their entry of ChemDog Cut surpassed the 32% mark setting the bar high with a new all-time record of 32.13% THC.

These are impressive levels and from the looks of it, the USA is producing a more power packed marijuana plant than that of our tokking friends in Jamaica.

The top of the list of six only reaches 17.8% THC submitted by St. Best Ganja Growers apparently going by a self titled name. The entry was submitted by Kevin Samuels and the strain is called Kevies Skunk. Second on the list of entries from Jamaica is True OG entered by Kingston Skinny with a 17.4% THC level followed by Power Nap entered by Sunspice with a level of 16.8% THC.

Next in the lineup is Gummy Berry 2 entered by Bongo Mannie. It's an indica flower grown outdoors with 16.6% THC. Following GB2 is Orange Hill Ebola entered by Juna Johnson. OHE is an outdoor grown indica with a 15.8% THC level. Wrapping it up at number six is M.G. Express - G.O.E.Original, coming again from St. Best Ganja Growers this time submitted by Glendon Elcis. This flower is an outdoor grown sativa leveling out at 15.4% THC and by the hyphenated name and initials G and E in the title, one must guess Glendon Elcis had a little influence.

Marijuana Strains for Your Halloween Festivities

Halloween is a great time for treating yourself to a little rest and relaxation. It's a time when tricksters and their treats hit the streets trying to score the mother candy load. The history of halloween is sketchy at best, but according to Peter Tokofsky, an assistant professor in the department of folklore and mythology at UCLA, the earliest trace of Halloween is the Celtic festival, Samhain, which is the Celtic New Year. Samhain (pronounced sah-win or sow-in) means "summer's end" by the Celts. "This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death." We'll cut short there because really and truly, the 'harvest' is all we're interested in! To celebrate, here's a list of the top fifty orange marijuana strains and if you feel like trick or treating this Halloween, why not stock up on orange weed!
Make it a Safe One.

Premium Marijuana Products for the First Timer

COLORADO PTSD RULING

Five individuals with PTSD filed a claim against Colorado over its choice not to permit their condition to be dealt with under the state's therapeutic pot program, despite the fact that the marijuana is as of now, lawful in the state for medical and recreational purposes.

Colorado as a leader in cannabis cultivation and sales and should take a glazing look at the state of Illinois and it's most recent lawsuit filed to petition adding PTSD as a condition to the current list of approved ailments.

A Cook County judge has decided that Illinois must add post traumatic anxiety issues to the state's approved list of medical conditions that fit the bill for medicinal cannabis treatment, as reported by the Associated Press. Only one day prior to the judgement, restorative cannabis program executive Joseph Wright surrendered from his position.

The Illinois veteran who filed claim, Daniel Paul Jabs, supposedly "feels this choice gives him and other military veterans experiencing PTSD the admiration they merit from the state and the representative's office," as per an announcement by Michael Goldberg, his lawyer.

This new issue will at last permit Illinois veterans and other people who experience the ill effects of PTSD access to cannabis as medication, and will prevent the state from blocking cannabis as a treatment. This is a big triumph for cannabis-curing veterans all over the place.

Lawyers contend that cannabis has been "extremely obstructed" by the medicinal board's refusal to perceive PTSD as a condition that is fitting for medical cannabis treatment. The prohibition of PTSD from the list was made regardless of a proposal from Colorado's main medicinal officer Dr. Larry Wolk.

Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment awarded $2 million to Dr. Sue Sisley for her study on cannabis in treating PTSD. It appears Sisley has to source the plants for the study but her sources are not able produce the kind of cannabidiol-rich strains she needs. Her source of weed being that of the University of Mississippi streamlined by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

On the alternative, she could walk into any local dispensary and purchase what she needs for the study but  that would make things too UNcomplicated. It would simplify things and most certainly expedite the process. In addition to that, Colorado would be receiving taxes on the money that's spent in the local dispensaries. It's as though there is no common sense among-st lawmakers.

The FDA approved two medications for PTSD, Paxil and Zoloft. According to research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, neither are more effective than a placebo.

From a legal point of view, Colorado voters approved Amendment 20 which  allows the Board of Health to add conditions. Currently Section 14. of Amendment 20 states; Medical use of marijuana for persons suffering from debilitating medical conditions as used in this section,  terms are defined as follows;

(a) "Debilitating medical condition" means: (I) Cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or treatment for such conditions;

(II) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition, or treatment for such conditions, which produces, for a specific patient, one or more of the following, and for which, in the professional opinion of the patient's physician, such condition or conditions reasonably may be alleviated by the medical use of marijuana: cachexia ( a wasting syndrome):  severe pain; severe nausea; seizures, including those that are characteristic of epilepsy; or persistent muscle spasms, including those that are characteristic of multiple sclerosis; or

(III) Any other medical condition, or treatment for such condition, approved by the state health agency, pursuant to its rulemaking authority or its approval of any petition submitted by a patient or physician as provided in this section.

In the largest understanding of our mutual habitation on planet earth, let's get it together folks.  Suffering is absolutely unnecessary and avoidable.  Wake up and do the right thing

CBD for Dogs?

CBD for Dogs

Unlikened to the 2000 stoner movie Dude, Where's My Car? where Jesse (Ashton Kutcher), and Chester (Seann William Scott), are entertained by Nelson's (David Herman), stoner dog as the dog tokes from a self resembling pipe, CBD for dogs seems to be having a positive growing effect on man's best friend.

CBD Cannabis produced pet products are produced mostly from hemp which has significantly different properties than the most consumed pot plants. Further discussion on the difference between hemp and medicinal marijuana will be discussed in another post, but for the most part, Hemp is part of the cannabis plant family but has an extremely low level of THC,  grows differently than THC-containing cannabis, and is well known for industrial use. Both are derived from the Cannabis Sativa L plant. Hemp contains from 0.3%-1.5% of THC while medicinal cannabis contains around 5% to 10%.

CBD extracted from Hemp -aka- Hemp Cannabidiol, or Hemp CBD is a non-psychoactive oil  extracted from cannabis plants.  Non-psychoactive meaning your dog won't get stoned!

Dogs, similar to humans produce natural chemicals in the body that interact within the endocannabinoid (EC) system called cannabinoids.  These cannabinoids work the same way in animals as they do in humans.  They work directly on the endocannabinoid (EC) system through cannabinoid receptors.

Cannabinoid receptors are a class of cell membrane receptors. There are two types.  CB1 receptor which is expressed mainly in the brain, the central nervous system, lungs, liver and kidneys. The CB2 receptor is expressed mainly in the immune system.

There are several companies and entrepreneurs already extracting, baking and shaping cannabis derived pet products. A quick internet search and you'll delight your best pal with a variety of healthy CBD treats including liquid concentrates, oils, edibles, biscuits, and capsules with plenty of treats sure to please and keep your pet at peace.

The American Pet Products Association suggests that the U.S. pet industry grew at an 8% CAGR to reach $58.51 billion in 2014.  $13.72 billion of that was derived from the retail pet medicine market with CBD-based products.

The APPA ( American Pet Products Association) has shared some interesting data that should provide insight as to the future revenues of CBD for dogs. They report that in 2015 the total pet industry expenditures in the United States hit $60.28 million and is estimated to hit $62.75 million this year.

$15.42 billion was spent on animal care, followed by $14.28 billion spent on animal supplies and over-the-counter medicine. Live animal purchases captured $2.12 billion while  pet food delivered $23.05 billion. Pet services such as grooming and boarding grew to $5.41 billion in 2015.

Dogs are best friends and family members.  They are loyal and trustworthy. They also know all your secrets and see everything you do when no one else is around.  Just think... what if your dog could really speak?!

Enjoy the Now!

What is Hemp? Difference Between Marijuana

It is reported that the United States founding fathers were hip on hemp. George Washington grew industrial strain hemp crops that were used for the production of rope, thread, canvas, and many other industrial applications.  It's also been rumored that refusing to grow hemp in America during the 17th and 18th centuries was against the law!  You could be jailed in Virginia for refusing to grow hemp from 1763 to 1769.

Amazing how times have turned and today ladies and gents, let's take a look at this crop and shed some light on this animal, well actually plant.

Hemp is a part of the Cannabis sativa plant family. It grows very fast and has a very low level of THC with much higher concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD).  It has been said that hemp use dates back ten thousand years ago when it was first spun into useable fiber.  Modern day use after it's been refined include commercial items such as paper, textiles, food, fuel, and clothing to name a few. Hemp does not produce psychoactive effects.

There are many differences between hemp and marijuana with the most obvious being its use. Marijuana is used as a consumable and topical product for medical and recreational purposes. Hemp is used for industrial purposes. Hemp fibers are very strong and have many practical applications.  Marijuana has psychoactive effects (you feel stoned). Hemp does not have psychoactive effects. Hemp is a high-growing plant and produces CBD which has many of the same pain management benefits of marijuana without feeling stoned. Marijuana plants produce high levels of THC (the get stoned compound).

The biggest difference between marijuana and hemp is that research has shown, CBD acts to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC. That means what is extracted from hemp counteracts that which is extracted from marijuana, even though they are from the same Cannabis sativa plant family.

Hemp is hip!  It's a usable practical plant that has incredible benefits.  As states continue to legalize marijuana and countries open their borders, the Cannabis sativa family of plants has a great chance of becoming the new "cash crop" of the millennium.

**

Cool quip from wiki: Hemp was made illegal to grow without a permit in the U.S. under the Controlled Substances Act passed in 1970 because of its relation to marijuana. Some states have made the cultivation of industrial hemp legal, but farmers in many states have not yet begun to grow it because of resistance from the DEA. In 2013, after the legalization of cannabis in the state, several farmers in Colorado planted and harvested several acres of hemp, bringing in the first hemp crop in the United States in over half a century.

**

Way to grow Colorado! A state where new beginning flourish and new ideas come to life.

Enjoy the Now!

CBD vs. THC - What are the Differences?

Posted by CANNASaver on Sunday, 18 September 2016 in Canna Blog

Differences Between CBD and THC

To explain the difference between CBD and THC it's important to first know what these abbreviated symbols mean and then explore what each compound is made of and it's effect on the human body.

CBD is short for Cannabidiol.  Why CBD instead of CNL? Who know's. There's still worldwide confusion over the term "jumbo shrimp".

Cannabidiol is a natural compound within the Cannabis sativa plant. As scientist continue to research the many different types of cannabis plants, scientist are also discovering the chemical properties that make up the plants. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of several hundred compounds found within the chemical structure of the sativa plant. It has become popular due to its effects on the human brain and body.

THC is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol. Now this abbreviation makes a lot more sense. The t, the h, and the c are all right there standing front faced at attention as proud members of the american english alpha-bet should be!

THC is the chemical compound in cannabis that produces the "high" effect. CBD on the other hand, does not produce   a "high" feeling like THC.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is probably the most popular compound in cannabis because it is the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana. Psychoactive is anything capable of affecting mental activity. It's a chemical substance that changes brain function and results in alterations in perception, mood, or consciousness.  It's the chemical that leads to various euphorias felt within the body and brain.  Some  examples of psychoactive substances most people have heard of include LSD, cocaine, crack cocaine, methylphenidate (Ritalin), and ephedrine to name a few. Both THC and CBD  interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in the human body.

Hundreds of different cannabinoids have been isolated from the Cannabis plant. Cannabinoids in simple terms are chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in cells within biological systems.

The human body has what is called an Endocannabinoid system.  Cannabinoid receptors are located throughout the body connected to this system.   Having a well-functioning endocannabinoid system is vital for human health. It is responsible for many of body's physiological processes such pain-sensation, mood, memory and appetite.

With this understanding, one may ask, what are the benefits of using one over the other.  The answer would have to be based on each individual's preference.  A look at a few of the other differences point out that CBD is technically legal because it does not produce the psychoactive “high” effect that THC does.

CBD is widely used for medical purposes and especially important for children and elderly patients who may be greatly helped by the cannabis plant but certainly would not and should not have any substance that would affect mental activity.

THC on the other hand produces a 'high' that people just love and it's high time the cannabis plant is respected for all the medicinal, social and financial benefits it produces.

The one thing about CBD and THC that is most impressive, is that you can try them both and see what works best for you!

Enjoy the Now!

Marijuana Legalization What it means for California and Other States

by Mrd

Recreational cannabis cultivation, sales and use are the premise of Amendment 64. California voters will have the power and authority to follow the lead set by 1,383,139 Colorado voters on NoMvember 6, 2012, who voted yes to legalize cannabis.  A 52% favorable vote which has already had great impact on the industry forcing systems, rules and regulations into place.

It's reported that California's legalization of recreational marijuana would bank $1 billion in additional taxes per year.  Colorado collected more than $135 million in legal cannabis taxes and fees in 2015. If you compare the market size and tremendous growth in consumer purchases, $1 billion just may be a bit little low.

On November 8, 2016, nearly 40 million California voters can flex their patriotic right to approve Amendment 64 which would legalize recreational sales to those age 21 and over.  Online consensus shows a strong positive movement toward legalization.

Other states prepare to address many of the same issues and cultural norms within their communities when it comes to legalization.  Fortunately, in this country, voters have the power to make a difference and change old paradigms that no longer fit, ethically, morally or scientifically when there is greater benefit to all.

If the population is educated with unbiased, un-agendaed, facts, with the number one understanding that in practise cannabis assists in relieving pain in the human body.  It is a plant that has a great impact on health, and obviously finances.

Every state where medical marijuana is legal, you can expect recreational pot to follow.  There's an old saying, "Follow the money" and in this paradigm, it's growing out of the ground.

Overall, legal marijuana in California, Colorado and every state that is forward thinking will have its impact.  Communities from coast to coast will begin to notice a much more positive vibe in their hoods as the populus begins to RELAX, and exhale from life's roller coaster ride.

There will be less alcohol incidents, less fighting, less arguing and much more creativity flowing between neighbors.  Entrepreneurially speaking, the cannabis industry has already opened the door for those with the desire to become financially independant.  The cannabis industry has opened new avenues for job creation and for educational institutions who must teach the new industry employees.

The scope of cannabis legalization is well beyond current comprehension.  It's like looking up at the sky and considering everyone is here on a single planet flying through space at an unheard of speed, hanging on the tip of a galaxy, surrounded by an infinite number of galaxies all in sync doing their own thing as we individually try to get a clue as to what's for dinner tonight.

Marijuana Use by Adults and Seniors on the Rise

Marijuana Use by Adults and Seniors on the Rise

According to a recent report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, today's parents are smoking weed more often than their teenage kids do. Marijuana use among kids age 12 to 17 has fallen, while marijuana use among adults age 35 and up has sharply increased. With marijuana dispensary deals offering deals on ounces of buds, coupons for edibles, deals on concentrates, daily specials on marijuana and other incentives, older adults with more spending power have become one of the largest and most influential groups of marijuana consumers.

Since 2002, marijuana use by middle-aged adults in the 45 to 54 age group increased by 48%, while marijuana use by adults age 35 to 44 rose by 43%. These are pretty sharp increases, but they're nothing compared to the numbers of even older adults who are now using marijuana regularly. Marijuana use by seniors aged 65 and older increased by 333% over the past decade, while marijuana use by adults age 55 to 64 has increased by a whopping 455%. The one group who is using marijuana less often, however, is kids and teens. Only 7.4% of kids and teens age 12 to 17 reported that they use marijuana regularly, showing a 10% decrease in marijuana use compared to data collected ten years prior.

The report highlights the ways in which marijuana legalization is shaping our culture. In the “War on Drugs” era, more kids and teens were using marijuana. Now that parents and even grandparents are doing it, doctors are prescribing it, and national media outlets report on it daily, marijuana has lost much of the glamour it received from being something illicit and illegal, rebellious and “wrong” in the eyes of the parental units and society as a whole. Marijuana has become acceptable, recognized for its many potential benefits on both physical and mental health, as well as for its advantages over the far more dangerous and detrimental choice of alcohol for purposes of recreational relaxation. Opponents of marijuana legalization often tout their fears about legalization leading to increased marijuana use among youth, but the study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention proves these fears to be unfounded. It's a timeless truth that kids usually don't want to be like their parents, so if their parents are toking down, teens are less likely to see marijuana smoking as an appealing activity that's in any way cool or desirable. Stephen Colbert even did a skit about the phenomenon of parental marijuana use on a recent episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” The skit featured a very normal-looking, middle aged Minnesota couple chilling out at home on the sofa. They're obviously stoned, bong in hand. Their teenage son walks in and they quickly stash the bong behind the throwpillow. The son accuses his mom and dad in a resigned and annoyed sort of way if they're smoking marijuana yet again, then he makes a comment about he doesn't use marijuana himself, but instead snorts adderall like a normal person.

Ideas about marijuana use are definitely changing, and parents are finding new ways to talk to their kids about drugs and marijuana use more honestly and openly than ever. With marijuana's benefits as a medicine widely recognized by the scientific and medical community, and medical marijuana dispensaries and recreational marijuana dispensaries a common feature in many communities in states like Colorado, no longer can parents pretend to their children that marijuana use is something criminal or extremely detrimental or dangerous, especially when they are using it themselves to relieve insomnia, back pain, anxiety, just to unwind, or for a number of other valid and logical reasons. If we don't want our kids to use marijuana, it makes sense to talk about it as honestly as possible, being genuine about the positive as well as the negative aspects of pot smoking. When marijuana is unfairly demonized, kids who try it and discover its real-life effects are much more likely to distrust any warnings they've received about other drugs which actually do pose very serious risks. Legalization has forced a more honest and open dialogue regarding marijuana use, which in turn is leading to fewer kids overall using marijuana for recreational purposes.

Marijuana has matured, both in terms of its users and in terms of the marijuana industry itself. With all the medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries such as Livwell, Medicine Man Denver, and MMJ America, plus all the cultivation facilities, research institutes, seed banks and more, the marijuana industry has become big business. Paired with an increasingly older demographic of marijuana users, marijuana is no longer kids stuff. It's ironic that where the War on Drugs failed, marijuana legalization has apparently succeeded. Putting marijuana into the hands of parents and grandparents and other older adults has been the unexpected key to keeping it out of the hands of youth.

Organic Pesticides and Cannabis Production

#whatdidyouexpect

I’ve gotten a good amount of questions into whether or not the weed my dispensary grows uses pesticides or is organic, the majority of people inquiring getting quite unhappy with my responses. The pesticide/organic stigma is of course a carryover from more heavily regulated industries like the food industry, and unfortunately with the way that dispensaries work these days it is not quite as available of an option for the marijuana industry.

First off, noone in the recreational or medical side of marijuana sales can be actually considered organic, whether or not it technically is, because none of it has been tested by the FDA to receive that status. This brings up the question “What does that official classification actually mean?” One of the more interesting things is that if you do claim your weed is organic you can potentially be sued. There have been several dispensaries that had to change their names because they initially went with some kind of name referencing “organic,” which again they do not have clearance to use.

As far as pesticides go, the dispensary that I previously worked for did use them, much to the chagrin of many snooty customers, trying to berate me for a decision that my company made to protect their product. In the current industry, at least in Colorado, most larger scale producers have to use pesticides on their product because of their scale alone. The goal for many dispensaries is always to expand into larger and larger grows, so as to minimize loss pesticides are a necessary “evil,” as one plant getting sick in a hundred plus plant grow can be devastating to the entire environment if not treated. As far as I know the only dispensaries I’ve heard of not using any pesticides are primarily the smaller, medical only locations.

These conversations are always hilarious to me. It makes me wonder how much stock people put into labels and ingredient listings, and how much they actually know about the production of products they take to be the “clean” ones they pride themselves on maintaining consumption of. And on that note, some people that I know have been smoking for years previous to any kind of regulated cannabis, in which case there is a good chance they’ve had something with pesticides used on it, or that wouldn’t technically count as organic just because of how it was grown, not to mention I’ve heard a ton of stories about growing amazing weed with just Miracle Gro.

At the end of the day, pesticides are necessary for full sized production facilities, and the CDPHE is very involved in making sure that everything used is above board, limiting the useable pesticide brands to six that are allowed to be used in growing marijuana, I believe. Not to mention no matter what is used in the product’s production should be flushed out before curing, unless the growers literally don’t know what they’re doing, and that stuff is instantly recognizable, it will make you want to die.

I’m not saying don’t inform yourself to the specifics of your dispensaries products, but don’t look down on me if I tell you there are pesticides used during production, you made this industry what it is. Not to mention there’s probably toxic dust in every inch of air that exists outside of a can.

Choosing the Right Marijuana Edible For You

Posted by CANNASaver on Friday, 09 September 2016 in Canna Blog

Choosing the Right Edible for You

Edibles are becoming a major aspect of the Marijuana industry, in some people’s mind they have even more importance than just weed by itself. For a decent part of the Medical side of the weed industry they are very important, as they allow somewhat of a more seamless delivery of the cannibinoids they are looking for without having to interact with their lungs and respiratory system, as well as eliminating some of the less desirable aspects of smoking like coughing, dry mouth, resin dirtying up smoking utensils, as well as being a less challenging option for people with harsh arthritis or tremors, as grinding weed and packing a bowl and even smoking it can become a hassle for regular users. But more and more people are finding that the edibles they have been directed towards may not be as effective as they may have hoped, though the problem may not be with the quality of the edible itself.

One of the major differences I have noticed people running into regularly is the kind of concentrates used to create the edibles themselves. The companies that produce edibles can go a few different routes in the infusion of their products, from the actual infusion process to the form of the THC being infused. For instance, some companies use what is essentially a very clean BHO product, similar to dabs but extra clarified, which work well for most people but in some cases doesn’t seem to process correctly in specific patient’s systems. When I encounter patients like this I generally try and push them to try something that has been created with cannabutter instead, which processes somewhat different and can be the missing element for several people I’ve talked to. Cannabutter also has some potential to retain a more complex profile than concentrates, as the flower itself is mixed straight with the butter that is then used to make edibles, usually more along the lines of baked goods and some chocolate hybrid edibles. If you have been having trouble getting the effects you’re looking for out of things like gummies or candies, it’s possible that this switch could greatly benefit you.

Another element that is always important to consider is how much of the edible you are actually consuming. In some cases with larger edibles, such as full sized candy bars or very low dosage candies that you have to consume many pieces of to meet your dosage, the sugar content can become an issue especially when looking to use edibles for sleep, as the sugar can adversely affect the THC doing this job. This is also heavily dependent on what your actual dosage is, the higher you end up having to consume the more often you may run into these problems. I have talked to several customers that stray from edibles that may actually be more cost effective or the actual Indica/Sativa specific item they may be looking for simply because they don’t want to eat that much chocolate or candy. I am personally much more in favor of eating less actual edible mass in all categories, though I think there is definitely a market for full substantial actual snack or meal edibles.

Some people that run into the common “THC gives me the munchies,” issue definitely benefit from having more to eat so as to avoid the problem of eating more than their dosage of edibles. Unfortunately because of the lack of regular demand for these kinds of products they are much harder to find on many dispensary shelves, even though there are companies that produce things like THC infused frozen pizzas. One solution to this is to go with pure cannabutter and just use it in conjunction with the food you  are going to eat anyway, everything from baked potatoes to a dollop in soup could be a much easier to control dosage option, though you will definitely have to feel out exactly how much yous hould be using, companies will always disclaim how much is technically in what amount of cannabutter bought at a dispensary but if you go the make-your-own route you definitely need to pay attention and start low, one of my neighbors basically quit trying after making a slightly too bomb plate of spaghetti.

So there are many things to consider when you look for the edible that will give you the best version of what you are looking for, and I highly recommend making notes on what works for you and what seems to work less. I also recommend putting chocolate bar edibles in oatmeal, it’s the best.
